Year 12 students took part in a charity Colour Run in aid of the Grace Dear Trust. Students ran or walked around the school field getting showered with washable paint. Lots of fun in the sunshine and raising £260 for the charity, whose ethos is ‘It’s OK to not be OK’. pic.twitter.com/RlcifqbI7M

Pastoral Care Journey

Year 7

  • Tutor groups allocated taking into consideration student friendships, parent/carer views, recommendations from Primary school and discussions with relevant staff.
  • If appropriate, some Year 7 students will join a transition group, where they are taught in small classes for a number of different lessons and receive specific support from the transition group team.
  • Each tutor group is allocated Year 11 student mentors who support the form as a whole and/or on an individual basis.

Year 8

  • Tutor group moves with tutor from Year 7 into their second year.
  • Teaching groups are also formed to help students to gradually learn to work with different students
  • Year 11 mentors continue support tutor times.

Year 9

  • In their third year students start to explore and consider their choices for the GCSE subjects to be studied in Years 10 and 11.
  • A ‘Guided Choices’ evening early in the spring term offers students and parents guidance and advice on how to make these choices.  Form and subject tutors play a key role in helping and supporting students at this stage.
  • Guidance is also offered on career paths that might include post-16 school and college provision.

Year 10

  • Students continue in the Tutor Groups, however, new teaching groups are formed based on their Guided choices.
  • As they start their GCSE courses a range of pastoral support is available to help students to both maintain academic success and ensure their overall wellbeing.

Year 11

  • The full range of pastoral care options continues to be available if and when required and is particularly important as the summer exam period moves closer.
  • During this busy year, students also start to consider their post-16 options – which A Levels, which sixth form, which college?
  • Advice and guidance for these important decisions is paramount and the school – including careers guidance team, tutors, heads of learning - works with both students and parents to help make the best choices for each individual.

6th Form

Throughout

  • The Pastoral and EWMH teams provide access to, a range of support, including: 1:1 intervention sessions, supported study and emotional literacy support.
