PRE visit: excellent exhibition at the Galicia Jewish museum followed by student workshops and a meeting with an Auschwitz survivor, a former child prisoner who was a subject of Dr Mengele's experiments, who told us about her story and showed us her number tattoo. The House System

The House System at Hinchley Wood School

We have four houses at Hinchley Wood School, Hawking, Frank, Nightingale and King - all named after inspirational people.  Membership of the houses is divided across the tutor groups and all years groups within the school. The aims of the house system are:

  • To give students opportunities to challenge themselves in new pursuits
  • To enable students to work with different people across the school
  • To develop new skills such as leadership
  • To recognise and celebrate students’ achievements over and above their academic studies

Mr Williams is head of Frank House, which is named after the inspirational young girl Anne Frank.   Luther King house is headed by Mr Scammell and is named after the American Civil Rights campaigner.
Nightingale Georgie nightingale   Hawking Cat hawking
Head of Nightingale is Miss Barton;
this house is named after the pioneering Florence Nightingale.
   Stephen Hawking is the inspiration behind Hawking House, which is headed by Miss Williams.
