Surrey County Cricket Club Sixth Form Cricket Programme

We are pleased to announce a new partnership between Hinchley Wood School 6th Form and Surrey County Cricket Club as part of the Surrey CCC State School Sixth Form Cricket Programme.  This exciting new collaboration with SCCC will make up to 12 places in each cohort of entry to the HWS 6th Form available to talented young cricketers.

Launching for the September 2025 cohort (current Year 10) the programme will provide young male and female cricketers access to high-quality cricket coaching provided by accredited Surrey CCC Coaches as well as strength and conditioning training whilst the students complete their A Level studies.

Students who apply to join the programme at HWS will study A Levels as part of the mainstream A Level cohort.  They will receive high quality cricket coaching delivered by members of the Surrey CCC Coaching staff.  The wider curriculum offers participants opportunities to learn more about cricket as a business through a range of employability workshops and certified courses including opportunities to acquire vocational and life skills in the areas of hospitality, coaching, media, groundskeeping, and more.  For instance, the spring of 2024 will see the existing cohort enrol in level one of the Grounds Maintenance Association course, including a work experience session with Lee Fortis, Surrey CCC’s Head of Grounds, and his team at The Kia Oval.

Many students also get the chance to complete the Support Coaching Course and gain experience as volunteer cricket coaches with the Surrey Cricket Foundation as well as help deliver cricket sessions to local primary school children in the Ben Hollioake Learning Centre at The Kia Oval.

Steve Elworthy, Chief Executive Officer at Surrey CCC, said: “The Sixth Form Cricket Programme has been offering brilliant opportunities for young people from state schools to upgrade their cricketing skills as well as learn about cricket as a business. The programme is of immense importance for everyone at Surrey and we’re delighted to see it growing from strength to strength.”

For those interested in knowing more about the programme and how to apply, Judy Wallis, Sixth Form Programme Lead at Surrey CCC, is conducting online presentations in May and September.   The first of these sessions for prospective students and their parents/carers is being held at 7-30pm on 22 May.
