History visit: landed safely at Heathrow, fifteen minutes ahead of schedule. Will ask students to contact you when we board the coach back to school. It's been a wonderful visit, we hope that the students have come away with a much deeper understanding of Berlin past and present.

Sixth form goes...Skating!

Mrs Potts

Sixth form does. . .Panto

Hinchley Wood Sixth Form is a lively, vibrant and respected part of Hinchley Wood School, with over 200 students across two year groups, which generally means there is never a dull moment!

Sixth formers enjoy the benefits of a dedicated, self-contained centre within the main school where they can socialise in a large common room with a kitchen area (tea and coffee provided) and vending machines, or use their spare time wisely in the private study rooms or dedicated IT area!

The sixth form social calendar is enviable, and includes bowling at Rotunda, ice skating at Hampton Court, dinner at Zizzi's, annual fundraising Panto, West End theatre trips (Wicked; Matilda; War Horse; 42nd Street, Jersey Boys...), a biennial trip to New York, a leavers Boat Party on the Thames and end of year Water Sports day at Liquid Leisure!

However, whilst the social element of sixth form life is taken very seriously at Hinchley Wood, the even more important part of student life, learning, is taken just as seriously.

A range of over 20 A level courses are offered and with a student to staff ratio that allows one-to-one support to be readily available when needed.  Students are supported day-to-day by an experienced, enthusiastic team comprising subject and form tutors and heads of learning, as well as a dedicated sixth form co-ordinator and a UCAS and Work Experience guidance supporter; all overseen by a Head of Sixth Form.  The mental health and general wellbeing of students is paramount and all sixth formers have access to a weekly, confidential session in which they can discuss any issues they might have with an experienced staff member.

Sixth formers . . . bowled over!

As well as having busy academic and social schedules, sixth formers also contribute in many different ways to the life of the rest of the school; they run fundraising events like the hugely popular (and very funny!) Christmas Panto; they provide leadership for students in lower year groups, particularly those who are struggling with GCSEs.  As if that isn't enough, they are also enthusiastic helpers at big school events like the Christmas fair, summer carnival and musical performances.

Our ethos is simple - work hard and you will achieve!
