Sixth formers enjoy the benefits of a dedicated, self-contained centre within the main school where they can socialise in a large common room with a kitchen area (tea and coffee provided) and vending machines, or use their spare time wisely in the private study rooms or dedicated IT area!
The sixth form social calendar is enviable, and includes bowling at Rotunda, ice skating at Hampton Court, dinner at Zizzi's, annual fundraising Panto, West End theatre trips (Wicked; Matilda; War Horse; 42nd Street, Jersey Boys...), a biennial trip to New York and leavers Boat Party on the Thames!
However, whilst the social element of sixth form life is taken very seriously at Hinchley Wood, the even more important part of student life, learning, is taken just as seriously.
A wide range of over 20 A level courses are available offer and a student to staff ratio that means one-to-one support is readily available when needed. Students are supported day-to-day by an experienced, enthusiastic team comprising subject and form tutors and heads of learning, as well as a dedicated sixth form co-ordinator and a guidance and pastoral care supporter; all overseen by a Head of Sixth Form. The guidance supporter is also responsible for, and has extensive knowledge of, UCAS applications. She also works closely with the schools' mentoring and careers advice team to provide guidance for those wishing to explore alternative routes Post 18.
As well as having busy schedules for themselves, both academically and socially, sixth formers contribute in many different ways to the life of the rest of the school; they run fundraising events such as the popular traditional Christmas Panto and rag day; they provide leadership for students in lower year groups, particularly those who are struggling with GCSEs. As if that isn't enough, they are also enthusiastic helpers at big school events like the Christmas fair, summer carnival and musical performances.
Our ethos is simple - work hard and you will achieve!
