The Big Shake Up, one of the UK’s most innovative and exciting ensembles, were once again in school to help student jazz musicians improve their performance technique, ensemble and improvisation skills.
Members of this professional band, who have a long-standing relationship with the school – previously as Bad Ass Brass – also brought together a Street Band of 13 students who have never before played ensemble. They were formed around lunchtime and then performed brilliantly to an audience of parents and friends in the evening.
The ‘Jazz Night’ also included performances by both school jazz bands, solos by James Aylmer-Hall and Nate Brazier and the Year 10 Band. The Big Shake Up rounded off the evening with a session of their own.
