Our Year 13 Business and Economics students recently had the exciting opportunity to visit the BMW Mini Plant in Oxford. During the visit, students gained a fascinating insight into the world of advanced manufacturing, seeing first-hand how cutting-edge engineering and technology come together to produce one of the UK’s most iconic cars. The site is one of the largest vehicle producers in the UK, employs over 3,400 people, and can build up to 1,000 Minis a day - 80% of which are exported.
The visit also highlighted the complexity of modern business operations, from supply chain management to quality control and workforce coordination. Students were able to observe how theoretical business and economics concepts, such as efficiency, productivity, and operational strategy, are applied in a real-world context.
A big thank you to Dr Lim for organising and accompanying the visit. This enriching experience not only inspired our students but also gave them a clearer sense of the careers and opportunities that exist within the automotive and manufacturing industries.
