If your child will reach the age of 11 between 1 September 2024 and 31 August 2025 you can apply for a secondary school place from 1 September 2024.

SEPTEMBER 2025 ENTRY (YEAR 7)

Important Dates for Applicants

  • 26 September 2024 – Hinchley Wood School Open Evening
  • 7 & 14 October 2024 – Open Mornings (booking essential which will open 27/9/24 by telephone via school reception)
  • 31 October 2024 – Closing date for applications
  • 12 December 2024 – Last date that an application might be accepted by the Local Authority as ‘late for good reason’
  • 3 March 2025 – Applicants who applied online will receive an email with their outcome.  Online applicants may also log in to their eAdmissions online account to view the outcome or access it through the mobile app ‘ParentComms’.  Letters will be sent by 1st class post to applicants who applied on paper and do not have an email address
  • 17 March 2025 – Date by which parents must accept or decline their offer of a school place
  • 27 March 2025 – Waiting list goes live.  Parents may contact the school to find out their child’s position on the list
  • 27 March 2025 – Notice of intent to lodge an appeal to be given to HWS Admissions Manager by email or post
  • 31 March 2025 – Deadline for appeals to be lodged with Surrey Schools Admissions

Admissions Appeals

Parents have the right to appeal to an independent panel against the governors' decision not to offer a place.  If you are not offered a place at Hinchley Wood School and would like to lodge an appeal you should inform the Admissions Team at the school in writing, either by email to Mrs S Grealish, Admissions Manager: sgrealish@hinchleywoodschool.co.uk or by post to Admissions, Hinchley Wood School, Claygate Lane, Esher, Surrey KT10 0AQ.  The Admissions Team will then notify Surrey School Appeals Service who administer the appeals.

 NB: Appeals will not start being heard until after the relevant closing date has passed.

Appeals lodged after these dates will be heard within 40 school days of the appeal deadline or 30 school days of being lodged, whichever is the later date.

Appellants will be sent notification of their appeal hearing at least 10 clear school days in advance of the hearing.  Appellants will be sent a copy of the school's case 7 clear working days in advance of the hearing.

Appellants must ensure that any further evidence not included with their initial appeal, is received by 5pm on the day notified in the letter with details of the hearing.  Any additional evidence or information received after this date might not be considered at the appeal hearing.
