✨ A special farewell ✨ This week, some of our Year 7 girls returned to their primary school, Long Ditton St Mary’s, to attend the Christmas concert and wish their former music teacher well as she begins a new adventure. It was a truly lovely send-off for Mrs Headley 🎶💛

Taking Learning Further with the Super Curriculum

The Super Curriculum aims to develop students’ appreciation for their subjects; challenge their thinking; and deepen their knowledge, understanding and skills.  Students can access the Super Curriculum by visiting the Super Curriculum web page. Please note that access is only available to HWS students.

The web page contains a wide range of self-directed activities in each subject area. These activities have links to the curriculum but challenge students to go above and beyond what is learnt in the classroom. Tasks are completed in students’ own time and each subject’s page is broken down by Key Stage and split into read/watch/listen/visit/create/explore.

Teachers regularly make Super Curriculum suggestions in lessons; on average one suggestion per half term in every subject in all year groups. We also advertise events and competitions and share information about additional opportunities throughout the academic year, so please keep an eye out for future updates.

Students are asked to log their involvement though a google form available at the bottom of the web page. This allows us to celebrate the achievements of those students who engage with the Super Curriculum.

For Sixth Form students, it is worth knowing that Super Curricular involvement is an important part of university applications.

We very much hope that the Super Curriculum inspires our students to explore their subjects further; build an appreciation of the value of their subjects to themselves and wider society; extend, deepen, and challenge their thinking, knowledge, and skills; and ultimately develop what might turn into a life-long passion!
