On the afternoon of 6th February, our Year 9 students welcomed 90 local elderly residents for an afternoon of tea, music, and conversation, creating a warm and truly meaningful community experience. The aim of the event was to open the doors of Hinchley Wood School and offer our elderly neighbours a complimentary treat while enjoying the company of the younger generation.
Students took the lead in serving, entertaining, and chatting with guests, many of whom were several generations older than themselves. They organised cake sales beforehand to fundraise for the event and even baked on the day to provide a fabulous spread of tea, coffee, finger sandwiches, and sweet treats. Musically talented students provided lively entertainment, and a fun quiz rounded off the afternoon. Guests included neighbours and residents from five nearby care homes, who arrived in minibuses, filling our school hall with laughter and cheer.
Congratulations to all the students and staff involved for organising such a thoughtful and impactful afternoon!
We look forward to opening our doors again on Saturday 20th June for our Summer Fair, a collaboration between the primary school and senior school—more details of this exciting event will follow later in this Newsletter.
