Our recent GCSE Geography trip to Iceland during the February half-term was an unforgettable experience and a fantastic opportunity to see classroom learning come to life. Throughout the visit, students explored some of the country’s most remarkable landscapes while discovering the powerful natural forces that shape our planet.
One of the highlights of the trip was glacier walking, where students stepped onto a real glacier and observed first-hand how ice sculpts the landscape. The group also ventured into a lava tunnel, exploring the fascinating layers formed by past volcanic eruptions—made even more memorable when the guide switched off the lights, leaving everyone in complete darkness!
Students deepened their understanding of volcanic activity during an exciting lava show, where real molten lava was safely demonstrated. Another thrilling experience was the FlyOver ride, offering a breathtaking aerial perspective of Iceland’s dramatic scenery—accompanied by plenty of screams from both students and staff! There was also time to relax and experience Icelandic culture, including a visit to the geothermal Sky Lagoon, where students enjoyed naturally heated waters with stunning coastal views.
Perhaps the most magical moments came each evening, as the skies lit up with the Northern Lights. Witnessing this incredible natural display night after night was truly unforgettable!
Overall, the trip was an inspiring and educational adventure that will stay with both students and staff for years to come. We are incredibly proud of how enthusiastically everyone engaged with the experience and represented the school throughout.
