During the summer break, six of our Sixth Form students participated in the week-long UK Japan Young Scientist Workshops at Cambridge University, an initiative we’ve proudly been involved with for many years. Organised by the Clifton Scientific Trust, this programme brings together students from schools across Britain and Japan.
Working in small teams with their Japanese counterparts, our students collaborated on various projects led by university scientists and engineers. They utilised state-of-the-art research facilities to explore topics such as using nanoparticles as catalysts and using sediments as a record of climate change. At the end of the workshop, each team presented their findings to an invited audience.
The students also had the privilege of attending a lecture by Professor Roger Cashmore, former Chair of the Atomic Energy Authority and Director of Research at CERN, as well as a talk by Lord Rees of Ludlow, the outgoing Astronomer Royal. In addition to their scientific endeavours, they enjoyed exploring Cambridge and engaging in cultural exchange activities. To celebrate their achievements, the week concluded with a formal dinner at Jesus College.
Congratulations to Annabel, Kate, Marcos, Ben, Edward and Elif for their outstanding work and for representing our school so well! A special thanks also to Mr Bishop for accompanying the students.
