Earlier this month, Year 7 students were delighted to welcome local author Malcolm Duffy for an inspiring author talk.
Malcolm is the author of four successful Young Adult novels, with his seventh due to be published in April 2026. During the visit, he spoke in depth about his latest book, Seven Million Sunflowers, which tells the story of Kat, a Ukrainian teenager whose family is hosted by a family in Kingston upon Thames. Malcolm drew on his own experiences for the novel, having hosted a Ukrainian family himself, and he shared how conversations with the teenagers he met—particularly one young person—helped shape his writing.
Malcolm also briefly discussed Read Between the Lies, a novel about two dyslexic boys who form an unexpected friendship. The talk concluded with a lively and thoughtful Q&A session, with students eager to ask questions about writing, inspiration, and storytelling.
Following the talk, Malcolm kindly signed copies of his books for students who had purchased his novels; thank you to Malcolm for an excellent and engaging visit that our students thoroughly enjoyed.
